Interesting heats coming up in Round 4 of the Globe Pro Fiji

The are some interesting heats upcoming up in the Globe Pro Fiji, for example

Damien Hobgood, who won here three times against Kelly Slater, who is hard to beat in left hand barrels and seems to be really motivated for his world title campaign or Taj Burrow, pictured here free surfing at Cloudbreak,

against Timmy Reyes who seems to be in fine form, especially when the surf is big and powerful.

My Fantasysurfer-team after Round 3 of the Globe Pro Fiji

After loosing half of my team until to the end of Round 3 my chances for the big prices shrinked drastically. I didn't notice that Bruce announced to retire from the tour after this year - no wonder that he's suffering some lack of motivation. Andy lost with a score of 5.83! to Fred in detoriating conditions - he only seems to rock in heavy surf any more -> no chance for another world title.
I should have choosen Mick, who is in fine form and scored a 12s barrel in his Round 1 heat and now is a hot contender for the "longest tube" award.

Andy Irons out
Tim Reyes
Bruce Irons out
CJ Hobgood

best wetsuit

Due to surfing mainly the chilly waters in the northern parts of Europe we are always interested in the best wetsuits. For the second year in a row Xcel won the "Wetsuit of the Year" - whoever decides on this. From our own experience the Xcel suits really seem to be a bit ahead of competition at the moment. Read more ...

My Fantasysurfer-Team for the Globe Pro Fiji

My Fantasysurfer-Team for the Globe Pro Fiji:

Kelly Slater
Andy Irons
Damien Hobgood
Bruce Irons
CJ Hobgood
Fred Patacchia
Mark Occhilupo
Jordy Smith

The forecast is 10+ foot - so the big boys will rule.

Perhaps I will have to do some more trading if Damo withdraws due to his injury.

Cheers

Cruisin' to the beach

I cruised to the beach with my dudes today. The forecast was average and so was reality. But trashtalking with my friends and shredding some crumbly waves is always better than hanging at home.
See some pics taken with my mobile.

On our way

Where are we going?

I need a PWC!

Why to wait for good waves if you have got a PWC!
You don't even need to wangle a take off.

Wildcards rule Chopes contest

The Chopes event was taken by Brazilian wildcard Bruno Santos against another wildcard - local hellrider Manoa Drollet. Manoa Drollet making the final was not a real suprise - but just a Brazilian, who are not really known for their big wave skills, winning the prestigious event at the awesome tahitian hardcore break was not to be expected.

Heavy traffic in the channel

Drollet smoked Slater two times in a row - first in Round 1 and then in Round 3

Chopes update

After waves like this

where considered as "not contestable" (I would have loved to surf them) the contest finally got under way in nice fun conditions.

The first five of the waiting period the pros had plenty of time to recover from the stressful job :-)

Hardcore sessions

My hardest session at the weekend was doing
this

I even bought a talisman for bringing some good surf to the northern coastline

Stay tuned!

No surf

I'm in Germany in the moment and there's no surf at the Northsea-coast since weeks.
As an alternative I'm having a crack on my new point and shoot camera.

The local cafe

My daughter

Summer arrived with unexpected warm days - good for the water temps but bad for the waves.
There are no low pressure systems in sight for the next week - so concentrate on your job and make some money for the next trip.

Last chance to set up your Fantasy Surfer team before the Billabong Pro

With the Billabong Pro Tahiti starting in less than 72 hours and a moderate forecast I traded three hot Goofyfooters into my team - Bobby Martinez, Fred Patacchia and Kai Otton.
Bobby won the event in '06 against Fred in clean 3-5 foot conditions - quite similar to the expected conditions for the upcoming event - and Kai Otton already reached the semis over there.

Is the Guru fucked up ...?

or do we have to take this forecast seriously:

I mean - it's Mai. One of the best months for surfing in Europe - normally.

skate sessions

With spring in Europe some sick skate sessions went off.

Check back soon for more pics.

Chopes tow-in

Check out this Surfline footage of the tow-in session recently going off at Chopes.
Don't miss the guy dropping in on Laurie Towner at 2:40 and then getting sucked over the falls. It looks as if he tries to swim up against the barrelling lip. I don't envy him for the following beating.

Spot Check Teahupoo

Photo: ASP / Covered Image

On Surfline you will find a nice Spot Check of Teahupoo where locals Raimana Van Bastolaer and Manoa Drollet describe the Tahitian hardcore break. It's not only about the wave itself but also about the outstanding performers there and the whole atmosphere at the spot.
Check it out to get prepared for the contest beginning at May 8.

Carissa meets Adriano

Carissa Moore, super talent from Hawaii, was granted a wildcard for the Trestles-contest.
In the next days she will have her first showing against World Tour warrior Adriano de Souza.
Although she definitly features a new definition of woman surfing - Adriano will wax her for sure.
So why didn't they place her in one of the first rounds of the contest - she would have had a real chance against one of the young WQS chargers.
See how she's goin at the nike6lowerspro.
