Netherlands

There's a nice run of good surf since some days at the Netherlands. You wouldn't believe how good it can get at the Northsea. Next time I bring my DSLR cam to take some surf-pics.

A day at Scheve

Fu... - looks onshore!

is onshore

before the session

after the session

Surf was better than it looks - and really crowded.
Unfortunately we had to leave early in the evening because the surf improved throughout the day and in the evening was the first chance of an empty lineup since years because nearly all Dutchies watched their football-team smoking Italy 4:1 at the EM.

Serious grom surf event in the Netherlands

From June 28 to 29 a qualification event for the Quiksilver King of the Groms will take place in Hoek van Holland in the Netherlands. Surf-Groms aged 10 to 16 can qualify for the finals in Capbreton/France later this year.
Nice to see that meanwhile also upcoming talents from Northern Europe get the chance to taste some "contest atmosphere".
The contest is organized by the German Surfing Association.

Who can beat Slater?

After Slater winning the third out of four events of the 2008 World Tour at 6 foot Cloudbreak/Fiji and wildcard surfer Bruno Santos winning the Tahiti event this is the question to ask his comrades.
Slaters only losses this year where against Tahitian wildcard Manoa Drollet at Chopes - so none of his opponents on the tour was able to beat him this year.
His lead in the ratings seems nearly untouchable now - he can actually be expected to extend his lead in the next event at JBay because this is one of his favourite waves.
So the 2008 World Tour looks a bit like Slaters victory lap at the end of his career as a contest surfer - with a convincing win over the hot newcomers Dane Reynolds and Jordy Smith and having shown Mick Fanning that he still is the man to beat there won't remain much to proof for the 2009 tour.
